Furnace Filters - Keeping Your Furnace Maintained

What Is A Furnace Filter?
A furnace filter is nothing but a removable filter that is fitted into the furnace unit. The location of the filter is in between the hearing coil or motor or fan and the inlet for intake of air. The furnace filter was basically invented in order to protect the internal parts and motor from dust and airborne particles that may cause damage to the furnace unit.
Besides protecting the motor of the furnace unit from dust particles, a furnace filter enhances the airflow system and efficiency of the unit. Without a furnace filter, the unit would get clogged with dust particles, and compel the motor to work harder until it overheats and stops working.
Originally invented to protect the fan and motor of the furnace unit, furnace filters are now designed to suck in the harmful pollutants of air and hence enhance the quality of air. Some of the filters, besides removing the visible dust particles such as hair, dust and smoke, also remove the invisible dust particles such as mould, bacteria and virus.
Types Of Furnace Filters
Pleated filters - pleated furnace filters features pleats or folds in its design. As a result, the surface area is increased, and the filter is able to suck in more particles from the air. In addition, due to the design of the filter, the particles are trapped on the surface only and not inside.
Electrostatic filters - Electrostatic filters are charged with static electricity and hence are capable of attracting electrically charged and small particles such as allergens and dirt particles. These filters are an efficient way to enhance the quality of air, and are easy to maintain as they are washable.
HEPA filters - HEPA filters stand for High Efficiency Particulate filters. These filters are capable of absorbing invisible and tiny particles. However, HEPA filters may not fit in all furnaces.
Advantages Of Furnace Filters -
Enhanced air quality - with furnace filters, particles known to pollute the air shall be trapped and the quality of the air will be enhanced.
Save money on maintenance - furnaces fitted with filters require less maintenance and repairs as the dust particles are attached to the filter and not to the parts of the furnace unit.
Reduced energy expenses - as the internal parts of furnaces do not get clogged, the furnace works efficiently without any extra load and does not consume extra energy.
